In his role as Treasury Secretary during the 2008 global financial crisis, HENRY PAULSON, JR. wielded enormous power, leading the administration’s successful effort to prevent a collapse of the financial system. He was named runner-up for TIME magazine’s 2008 Person of the Year. Paulson began his career as a member of the White House domestic council in the early 70s as staff assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense and then as staff assistant to the President. During his 32-year career at Goldman Sachs, where he served as Chairman and CEO from 1999-2006, he developed strong ties with China and is still involved with education and conservation projects in that country. He is an avid naturalist and former board chair of the Nature Conservancy.
