Calvin Trillin – SVWC 2011
Journalist, humorist, memoirist, novelist, food writer and poet Calvin Trillin has been hailed in remarkably diverse fields of writing over his half-century-long career. In praise of his work at The New Yorker where he has been a staff writer since 1963, he has been called “perhaps the finest reporter in America.” He is equally renowned for his “Uncivil Liberties” column, which first ran in The Nation, was later syndicated to newspapers, and was called by USA Today “simply the funniest regular column in journalism.” Trillin’s books have included three best-selling memoirs, three comic novels, a collection of short stories, a travel book, and an account of the desegregation of the University of Georgia. He has also written and performed two sellout one-man shows at New York’s American Place Theatre. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Trillin published his 27th book in 2011, a humor collection titled Quite Enough of Calvin Trillin.
